Week 8 final days
Puppies have had their bath, shampoo and blow dry today in readiness for the meeting of their new families tomorrow. It will be a challenge to keep them dry and clean for the rest of the day as we are experiencing some beautiful winter rainfall.
Puppies are bursting at the seems to move on to their forever homes. They are real handful now (if they weren’t already) following me everywhere. All puppies confidently walk to our cottage farmstay and enjoy meeting the guests. This week there is a tapering off of the midday feed and the weaning off mother’s milk. They are all eating excellently.
Group photos this week as they will be in their new homes soon.
Getting ready for this week’s photo shoot
All puppies are in excellent health with Vet check, micro-chip and vaccinations completed last week.

Snow, snow and more snow. Our puppies in their short life of seven weeks, today experienced snow. Hence, photos were taken inside today. They are so active now. Running everywhere and spending many more hours awake playing and enjoying social interaction.
We have been busy shearing our sheep this week and here is a photo of “Dad” aka Wildee keeping warm in some of the wool in the shearing shed.

Puppies are out and about adventuring in our garden and have found some interesting places to amuse themselves. They are really enjoying playing with each other and having time to interact with us as well.
They are on three meals a day this week and making the transition to solids with a variety of offerings. This week puppies are going to town for their micro-chip, vet health check and vaccinations.
Weight gains have been excellent this week. See the table below from Week 3.
This weeks photos:
Puppies are running to greet me each morning, looking for their new offering of food. The beef and gravy has gone well and now they are on some cooked chicken breast with gravy and peas. Just very small amounts are given in the morning and evening. Puppies are also enjoying some outside play time and have access to grass and the garden area. They are alot of fun as they all want to play and interact.
The puppies are continuing to progress and thrive as the weigh table indicates. They are more mobile now and moving completing off the nest to do their business. They are enjoying the garden and sunshine and having their first introduction to solids. Slowly, they are being offered some cooked beef mince with gravy.
Hope you enjoy this weeks photos. YouTubes taken today to be uploaded this week.
A warm yet overcast day today with some sun from time to time. The photos were taken outside with some sun. Hope that you are enjoying their progress.

Puppies have all found their forever homes
It is with pleasure that we announce that all puppies have found their forever homes. I am sorry for the people who have been so faithful yet missed a puppy from this litter. We were a little surprised that Suzie had an average size litter as she always exceeds our expectations but unfortunately for some families not this time.
Week 3 weigh in and photo shoot scheduled for tomorrow. Hoping to take them into the garden so as show off the puppies in the sunlight. Suzie is spending more time apart from them now. Today, she had two hours with us in the cattle yards watching the goings on. Actually, I think she just needed a break as she has been so devout in her management and care of them.
Puppies are having a little awake time now and when we go in to check them, their little eyes are flickering us over as they are just becoming more aware of their surrounds.

Puppies are starting to get up on their wobbly legs to manoeuvre themselves just off the nest to the newspaper. They are learning at an early age to seek out another place other than their nest to relieve themselves.
Eyes are open and a little more awake time coming into their routine. Suzie is coming to our kitchen seeking her fill every few hours. The puppies are demanding more and more at this stage.
The puppies are growing fast and developing at the same rate. Eyes are opening this weekend and puppies are progressing so well. Identification names and colours have been assigned. Puppies have been wormed this weekend with Drontal suspension. Two weeks old – eyes opening

The puppy weigh in has happened today. This will be published soon. Close up of the puppies above. Suzie, with her litter below.
Finally Suzie is taking some time to leave the nest and spend five minutes with us in the kitchen. Since Sunday, she has been had feed on the nest along with raising the water bowl to her mouth so she can have her hydration. It’s great to see her having short breaks from the puppies. Each day, I check the puppies’ tummies to check that they are suckling and progressing well along with changing the soiled bedding. I will endeavour to take some photos over the weekend and to start the weight table to record the weekly weights of each puppy. Already, only after a few days it is amazing how fast they are growing.
Passing of puppy number 7
Today we have to sadly let our readers know that our last puppy born on 25th May has died. He was gasping for breath when born and both my husband and I were present when he came into the world. He moved and cleaned up quite well and appeared to be making good progress. To his disadvantage was his size. He was easily pushed off the available teats by his stronger siblings. Despite all our efforts with eye droppers and support on Mum, he passed today.
Consequently, I have been slow to answer emails and I will endeavour to catch up soon.
Suzie’s puppies have arrived!!
Last night Suzie began whelping her puppies, with the first one arriving safely at 8 pm. The next two came about an hour apart. So a total of three at about 10.30pm. It was going to be a long night. By 2.30am, she had had another two and getting plenty of rest between each puppy. Suzie needed extra water and I was there to offer water when she needed it. The night was cold but she was busy cleaning up the puppies licking them dry and cleaning up the nest at the same time. By 7 am, she had her sixth and having a good rest. At 9.30 am, I decided to replace some of the soiled bedding with dry blankets and towels and she was appreciative as the puppies needed to be dry and warm.
However, Suzie wasn’t quite finished and after replacing the bedding of course, she then had the last one at 10 am. She is a wonderful mum, as she still has not left her new arrivals from 8 pm last night to 8 pm tonight. I have been feeding her and watering her by hand.
Had a quick look to see the gender of puppies and we have 5 boys and 2 girls. More updates later in the week.
Feeling the need to stretch out and relax
Oh, do I really have to have my photo taken in this condition.
Whelping box in the foreground and wood heater in the background. Doggy Door to access outside and entry into the main kitchen area.
Inside the whelping box where the pups will be born. Cork tiles, layer of newspaper, doggie pads and soft quilt. Towels to be added when whelping begins.
Suzie is having her 2015 litter in a few more weeks. Can all people who are on this waiting list, please make contact with me in the next few weeks to rekindle your interest in the puppies from this expected litter. In your updated communication, can you please reaffirm your gender preference so that I can be in contact when the litter arrives.
Suzie is still quite active joining in with morning and afternoon walks. I’ll know so enough when she is too heavily pregnant to join us, but no indication of that so far.
Suzie has been mated In March for a May expectant litter. For parent photos view : http://www.oakhurstcottage.com.au/Cavaliers.htm
