Week 8

This important milestone marks separation from their beaut mum, Daisy to their loving, new, forever homes. We are so pleased that our puppies have found loving families to go to. With only two puppies at our home, it is somewhat less hectic and Daisy seems to be coping quite well.

Looking forward to receiving from time to time, some developmental photos of this gorgeous litter.

Week 7

Puppies have had their bath and blow dry today indoors. It’s been so cold and wet and have been putting the job off day after day. However, with the house warm and out of the wind, the puppies really enjoyed the bath. I used Aloveen shampoo and conditioner however there are some other good brands out there too.

Week 7 – final litter photos

The last week that puppies will all be together before they venture to their new forever homes at the end of next week. This week I have selected 8 photos of each puppy and there are four takes of short video.

Preparing for your puppy’s arrival

When your puppy arrives at your home and in the first few days, your puppy may seem a little lost as they will have to cope with the separation from their litter mates. With time and attention along with lots of cuddles and patience your puppy will adjust.

Diet

From 8 weeks to about 12 weeks of age puppy can have three to four small meals per day. From three months of age to six months of age the guide is two – three meals per day. As a junior from 6 months to one year, two meals per day and from then as an adult just one meal per day.

Toilet Training

Your puppy will learn much more from your body language and tone of voice than from words. Be prepared for accidents from time to time. Try to get in tune with your puppy, for example when he/she wakes up, take him/her to the area where you want him/her to toilet. Try to be consistent and go to the same patch of grass or area for toileting. Give praise when toileting in the right place with a high happy tone for praise and encouragement. After meal times, take puppy to the toilet area and again lots of praise for doing the right thing. Understand the pattern when your puppy needs to toilet and look for signs eg moving away to the door, sniffing the floor, moving around in small circles….. You can do some extra reading on this topic before puppy arrives home. Use your search engine and read widely on the topic and have a plan of action. I have some printed information in your folder which you will receive via mail or in person when we meet. In the package you will also receive worming, immunization and other documents relating to puppy ownership.

Food Guide

Cavoodle Food Guide In the next few weeks, I will be trying to introduce as much variety as I can so that your puppy will be OK with as many foods as possible. The following:- (these are only suggestions, she/he will adapt to you and what you offer eventually) – chicken necks cut up small (available from Coles and Woolworths) about $5 a tray will last for a while so you could freeze most and only have 1 or 2 for her/him – pet mince (roo and assorted meats) also available at Coles and Woolworths, she/he will only eat about a tablespoon of this as it is very rich. You could freeze most and only have a small amount in the fridge or divide into small amounts wrap in gladwrap and freeze. – beef mince, raw and cooked. This is the first food that puppies have been introduced to and all are accepting of it. – tin dog food any brand.  Again she/he eats only small amounts of this, maybe a tablespoon at most. This just gives a bit of variety and helps when you haven’t remembered to take something out of the freezer. A small tin only until you see what he/she really likes. – puppy SuperCoat biscuits – Dr Harry – pink trim on packet. Available at supermarkets – be sure to get puppy stage for the size and higher protein. I have dry biscuits and water available all the time and feed the puppies by hand at first about 3  times a day – only very small amounts. Actually, they do not eat very much. You will soon find they enjoy to play more than to eat. Just for your interest, as we are on a property, we shoot rabbits. Your puppy has also had fresh rabbit which they love, of course. Also, they have had fresh and cooked mutton and some fresh roo meat. As far as bedding is concerned, she/he has been using a little dog bed (pad) available from the pet shops also in Kmart, and she/he will have part of the blanket from the nest which I will provide. A lead and soft toys are good also, especially the ones with a squeaker in them. Toilet training began when they first started to leave the nest. She/he should go to newspaper or close to it and now that she/he is older she/he is going onto grass. This is a learning process. I have provided a lot more information and tips in the folder that I will give to you about this. Hope this helps. Let me know if you have any more questions.

Week 5

YouTube – all the puppies Puppies are running everywhere. They enjoy their playtime and getting to know each other and their surrounds. A very interesting time to observe them. All the puppies are feeding well on their supplements. They have begun to lap water and warm powdered cows milk.

Week 4

Puppies have started solids this week and are being introduced to softened puppy biscuits, soft processed food, and some fresh rabbit. All the puppies are eating well with no fussy eaters. More details in later blogs about puppies and the foods that they have been introduced to. Puppies had their first bath before photos today. Can you notice their new fluffy coats? Puppies are wobbly on their feet yet moving about and exploring just a tad. They are still sleeping predominately and feeding in between. Their faces are growing more interesting each day and it is possible to see more difference in appearance between individuals as they develop. Photos taken outside in the garden in the shade. Week 2 and a Half

Puppies are becoming so more interesting now that they have their eyes open and getting about just a little better. They are all becoming darker in their coat. Here are some photos of the puppies sleeping peacefully. IMG_2666 IMG_2667 IMG_2668 IMG_2669 IMG_2670

Week 2

Puppies are just starting to open their eyes and view their surroundings. They are sleeping most of the time and rushing in for feeds when Daisy is on the nest. The puppies are just starting to move around the nest and becoming a little mobile. Photos and video have been taken out in the sun today so that you can appreciate the richness of the colour of the puppies coats. Week 2 IMG_2587 IMG_2588 Puppies have received their first worming tablet today and their programme for worming will continue fortnightly until they leave our home. As you can see all the puppies are making very good progress with excellent weight gains recorded this week. Some weeks, puppies will not gain as much each week which is normal.

Puppies are sleeping longer now in between their feeds. Finally, they are giving Daisy more of a break between feeds. Daisy has been on little outings with us around the farm giving her something else to think about. Tomorrow, I will be weighing the puppies and giving each pup an identifying piece of fabric for photos later on. Already, it is possible to see that the pups are developing a curly and wavy coat and it appears that the colouring of the puppies is deepening.

Day 5

IMG_2571 IMG_2573 IMG_2574 Day 5 Video

Day 4

Daisy is becoming more relaxed and starting to enjoy her new role as a Mum. Interestingly, she has taken some of her old habits, like taking my shoes away into the garden. I don’t know what she is thinking sometimes!! All the puppies are progressing soundly. Our two smallest females are feeding well and making good progress while the other five seem to be growing under our very eyes. IMG_2566 IMG_2567 IMG_2568 IMG_2569 IMG_2570

Day 2

Daisy has been struck with the responsibility of her puppies today.  Yesterday she was happy and running around but today she is spending most of the day with her puppies and not looking so happy about it. Oh, well motherhood has it’s ups and downs. Two of the female puppies are very small just over 100 grams so I am paying particular attention to see they latch on as often as possible. IMG_2562 IMG_2563 IMG_2564 Just to show how tiny theses puppies are at Day 2 Day 2 YouTube Video

Puppies whelped 15th April

Daisy has had her puppies today. She has seven in total, four females and three males. Check out Daisy’s webpage. IMG_2556 IMG_2557 IMG_2558 IMG_2559 IMG_2560 The puppies are much the same colour with some with just a hint of white markings. IMG_2561 Daisy uses this little doggy dog to go outside and then into our kitchen area. She has the wood heater close to the whelping box for the cold nights ahead.

Daisy and Ralph

It is great news to confirm Daisy’s pregnancy. We are expecting her first litter of cavoodles towards the end of April. Daisy is a female registered pure bred miniature apricot poodle. She has been mated with Ralph who is a registered pure bred male King Charles Cavalier. Here are some of the latest photos of the expectant couple lounging around our kitchen area.
